Rams force replay

Sunday, 06 Jan 2008 16:32
The Rams have not won a game since September 17th
Derby County came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday in their FA Cup third round tie at Pride Park.

Mark Beevers and Marcus Tudgay looked to have given the Owls a giantkilling, before Kenny Miller and Giles Barnes hit back for the Rams.

Loan signing Danny Mills made his debut in place of the injured Jay McEveley for the Rams, while Wednesday were again without the injured Steve Watson.

The Championship strugglers took a shock lead in the sixth minute when Lewis Price's blunder allowed Beevers' tame volley from 20 yards to trickle past him.

Paul Jewell's side recovered from conceding an early goal and came close to equalising when Gary Teale rattled the crossbar from Kenny Miller's cross on 15 minutes.

The visitors' defensive errors then continued to haunt them as Darren Moore's poor back header allowed ex-Derby striker Marcus Tudgay to slot the ball home to make it 2-0 on 23 minutes.

But the Rams got themselves back into the tie with two goals in the space of five minutes.

First, Craig Fagan's cross from the right was controlled by Miller and the Scotland international drilled his shot past Lee Grant on 39 minutes.

Then on the stroke of half-time, Barnes equalised with a half-volley after the Owls failed to clear a corner.

Derby began to boss the game in the second half with Michael Johnson's looping header floating narrowly wide from Mills' cross.

Minutes later Eddie Lewis' cross from the left found Teale whose volley forced Grant into a fine save.

The visitors thought they had struck the winner in the closing minutes but Deon Burton's effort was ruled out for offside, forcing both sides into a replay at Hillsborough.
