Lampard scored four for Chelsea
Frank Lampard took some of the pressure off under-fire manager Avram Grant after his four goals helped condemn relegation favourites Derby County to a 6-1 Premier League defeat at Chelsea.

Lampard buried the thoughts of a difficult FA Cup defeat at Barnsley as his four goals ensured the Stamford Bridge outfit kept up the pressure on Arsenal and Manchester United in the title race.

He opened the scoring on 26 minutes from the penalty spot after being brought down by Dean Leacock, on as a substitute after Alan Stubbs suffered an early injury.

Lampard struck the post with an earlier shot and was involved in Chelsea's second when he slid Nicolas Anelka through on goal.

Roy Carroll beat the Frenchman to the ball but could only clear as far as Salomon Kalou, who placed the ball into the net from the edge of the area.

Lampard's second and Chelsea's third came in the 57th minute after he tapped in Joe Cole's right-wing cross.

Derby offered futile resistance and Chelsea added the fourth when Carroll parried Anelka's shot into the path of Joe Cole after the French forward broke the offside trap on 63 minutes.

Lampard sealed his hat-trick when he struck a right-foot shot into the bottom corner after collecting Kalou's pass on the edge of the area.

The England midfielder made it 6-0 with a left-foot strike from Joe Cole's pass after 71 minutes.

But Derby netted a consolation when David Jones finished off Kenny Miller's pass with a left-foot finish barely a minute later.

The result means Chelsea are now five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.End of story
