Fulham exit after Rovers loss

Kenny Miller scored as Derby edged past Sheffield Wednesday on penalties
Fulham crashed out of the FA Cup after going down 5-3 on penalties to Bristol Rovers in their third-round replay at the Memorial Stadium.

Neither side could find a breakthrough in 90 minutes as Tony Warner was called upon to make fine stops from David Pipe and Andrew Williams to keep the top-flight strugglers in contention.

The hosts continued to press in extra-time as Richard Lambert crashed a shot into the side netting but Roy Hodgson's side came close to stealing through as Clint Dempsey was denied by a great save from Steve Phillips.

Dejan Stefanovic received his marching orders as penalties approached and the Serbian defender could only look on as the returning Jimmy Bullard saw his spot-kick saved and Craig Disley stroked home to send the Cottagers out.

Derby County survived a potential upset as they overcame Sheffield Wednesday 4-2 on penalties at Hillsborough despite falling behind in normal time.

On ten minutes former Newcastle United player Steve Watson put the hosts ahead, finishing off a sweeping move with a low, powerful shot that gave Lewis Price no chance in the Rams' goal.

The Premier League side pulled back level thanks to Kenny Miller's driven effort from the edge of the box.

The Scottish striker should have put Paul Jewell's men into the fourth round but contrived to nod a routine headed chance over the bar in the dying minutes of normal time.

There was no more scoring in the added half-hour and after Price had saved from Glenn Whelan and Kenny Lunt, Craig Fagan stepped up to covert the final spot-kick.

The evening's other replay also went to penalties as Barnet upset League One Swindon with a 2-0 shoot-out win after drawing 1-1 at the end of extra-time.End of story
