Manager Paul Jewell can focus on Derby's relegation fight after FA Cup defeat
Premier League Derby suffered a humiliating home reverse as Preston inflicted a 4-1 defeat at Pride Park in their FA Cup fourth-round meeting.

The Championship side were 3-0 up by half-time as a brace from Karl Hawley came either side of a well-taken goal from Simon Whaley.

Robert Earnshaw slotted home in the second half, but Neil Mellor fired home a penalty late on to underline the visitors' dominance.

Middlesbrough avoided a similar fate as they comfortably saw off Mansfield with a 2-0 away win.

Gareth Southgate saw his side advance to the fifth round thanks to a strike from Dong-Gook Lee and Jake Buxton's unfortunate own-goal three minutes from time.

Portsmouth made heavy work of overcoming fellow south-coast side Plymouth at Fratton Park, eventually winning out 2-1.

Chris Clark gave the visitors the lead before Lassana Diarra and Niko Kranjcar netted for Harry Redknapp's men.

In the battle of the Championship sides Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Watford 4-1 at Vicarage Road.

Doubles for Andrew Keogh and Jay Bothroyd did the damage for Mick McCarthy's side.

John-Joe O'Toole fired in for the Hornets in the last quarter of the match but it was all too late to mount a comeback.

Luke Bennett gave Huddersfield a 1-0 win away to Oldham as his tenth-minute goal proved the difference between the two sides.

A solitary goal was also enough for Bristol Rovers in their meeting with Barnet as Fulham's conquerors from the previous round progressed thanks to a Rickie Lambert goal.

Flying high at the top of the Championship West Brom had little trouble brushing aside Peterborough with a 3-0 win away from home.

Czech star Roman Bednar led the way for the Baggies with a strike in the seventh minute before Robert Koren added another shortly after and Kevin Phillips rattled home a second-half penalty.

Coventry earned a 2-1 win over Millwall at the Ricoh Arena to book heir passage to the next round.

Stephen Hughes put the hosts ahead with a powerful drive but parity was restored before the interval as Jay Simpson found the back of the net for the Lions.

Maltese striker Michael Mifsud put the Sky Blues back in front and they coasted home without any further scares.

Finally Southhampton defeated Bury 2-0 at St Mary's through late goals from Andrew Surman and Grzegorz Rasiak.
