John Terry to remain as Chelsea captain under Luiz Felipe Scolari, new Blues boss confirms
John Terry will remain as
Chelsea captain under Luiz Felipe Scolari, it has been confirmed.
The England defender was made Blues skipper by former boss Jose Mourinho, and Scolari said he planned to stick with the 27-year-old.
Speaking at his first press conference as Chelsea manager Scolari said of Terry: "I like him as a captain. I like him as a player and as a leader.
"The captain is John Terry and the second captain is [Frank] Lampard, but we want more captains on the pitch."
Scolari told journalists that he had spoken to Terry as he toured the club's Cobham training complex on Monday.
"Yesterday, he came to my room and he said, 'I'm the captain John Terry' and I said 'I know you' and we spoke."
The news provides a boost to Terry, who is yet to convince England coach Fabio Capello that Steve McClaren was right to hand him the Three Lions armband full-time.
