Yeung still planning takeover at Birmingham City

Monday, 26 May 2008 12:06
Yeung is still interested in a takeover at Birmingham City
Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung is still interested in buying Birmingham City, according to his right-hand man Sammy Yu.

Yeung remains the largest single shareholder at the club and Yu claims there is still a possibility that Yeung will look to acquire full control.

Yeung was brought into the club last summer and claimed he was looking to buy the club quickly.

However, co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold imposed a Christmas deadline for any deal to be done which passed without Yeung making a firm offer.

Sullivan and Gold claimed Yeung's failure to follow through with his takeover caused instability within the club and blamed him for the exit of manager Steve Bruce.

However, Yu says the situation could have been handled much better.

Yu said: "Hopefully one day we can take the club over. We thought that if we get involved in the club at least for some time, then we can take over and guarantee that nothing will go wrong.

"But then when an article appeared in a Birmingham match programme saying that Mr Sullivan would not deal with Mr Yeung, it made us feel disappointed because it was not even close to the so-called deadline to buy the club outright."

Despite the Blues' relegation from the Premier League Yu insists Yeung remains committed to the club.

He said: "We have been very polite but they have been quite unreasonable. We didn't ask for anything nor have we done anything to hurt the club. All we have done is support the club."

Following the club's relegation Sullivan said he was thinking about selling his shares as he did not like the way the Birmingham fans had begun treating him, which could allow Yeung to complete his takeover.End of story
