Shaun Pollock joins Durham Dynamos for 2008 Twenty20 Cup
Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock has signed for Durham in order to play for the county in this year's Twenty20 Cup competition.

The 34-year-old, who has retired from international cricket, is also due to take part in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after signing a big-money contract with the Mumbai Indians.

As a result, Pollock will join up with his Durham team-mates in June once the IPL Twenty20 tournament is complete at the end of May.

On signing for the Dynamos, Pollock said: "When I got the offer from Durham I really jumped at the chance to get on board, they are determined to do well in the Twenty20 Cup and I want to contribute to that success.

"They proved themselves to be a force in the four-day and one-day game last year and I’m keen to help them replicate that success in the Twenty20 Cup."

Pollock will add considerable experience to the Durham lineup, being a veteran of more than 100 Tests and 300 one-day internationals throughout a stellar international career.

And Durham chief executive David Harker said the acquisition of "one of the biggest talents in world cricket" represents a significant coup for the club.

"He's got great experience in all formats of the game and we think he'll bring a great presence to the team, both on and off the field," Harker explained.

"We've got big aspirations for success in the Twenty20 Cup this season and along with Albie [Morkel] I'm sure that we have recruited players with enough Twenty20 experience to help us progress in the competition."

Pollock, who has previously played in England with Warwickshire, is expected to make his debut for the Dynamos against the Derbyshire Phantoms in their opening Twenty20 Cup match on June 11th at the Riverside.
