South Australia have denied reports that former England skipper Michael Vaughan could play club cricket in the country during the winter.

Vaughan was left out of the England Test squad for the series against India after the selectors felt he had to find some for form after a poor summer with the bat. With no county cricket, Vaughan will have to travel abroad to play competitively.

Reports suggested his former Yorkshire team-mate Daren Lehamann was trying to help Vaughan get a chance to play first class cricket with the Southern Redbacks.

"This is categorically not the case", said South Australia Cricket Association high performance manager Jamie Cox. "The Redbacks have had no conversations with Mr Vaughan regarding his recruitment to the side.

"I am not familiar with any conversations Mr Lehmann may have had with Mr Vaughan regarding playing at grade level, and this may well be an option for him.

"But he has never been considered as a candidate for the Redbacks this season and he will not be playing for South Australia."

National selector Geoff Miller said Vaughan was still very much in England's plans for the future and hoped to "send him out somewhere in the world" in order for him to play some cricket. Miller also stated that Vaughan might be called-up to the England performance squad which also tours India.
