Wigan boss Paul Jewell remains optimistic of his side's chances of surviving in the Premiership this season and feels they have turned the corner ahead of their game with Arsenal.
Jewell believes their win against Portsmouth last week has lifted the confidence of his side and is hoping to become the first away manager to win at the Emirates Stadium this season.
He said: "For a few weeks we seemed to have been battling against the tide, but all the hard work paid off last weekend and the players have had a real spring in their step this week.
"We got to Arsenal full of optimism. Of course, you have to be realistic, and we know how tough an ask it is to get anything at a place like Arsenal, against one of the best passing teams in Europe."
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is also confident that the Latics will stay up and says Jewell's men always play well when he sees them.
Wenger wants his own side to maintain their concentration for the game after dropping points against Middlesbrough last week.
He said: "We will have to give everything if we want to continue our run. What a shame it would be if we beat Manchester United, then drop points all because we are not focussed enough."
The Gunners welcome back Abou Diaby and Julio Baptista while Johan Djourou is set to fill in for the suspended Philippe Senderos.
The Latics have Emile Heskey, Leighton Baines and Chris Kirkland all available following injuries.
