Tottenham captain Ledley King and fellow England international Jermaine Jenas have begun training again and expect to be back playing soon.

King bruised a foot in the Boxing Day game with Aston Villa while Jenas picked up an ankle injury against Arsenal at the start of December but both hope to make a contribution in the second half of the season.

King said: "I'll be back soon and it is improving quickly. It was building up gradually, just a feeling at the sole of my foot that wasn't right."

Martin Jol's side have lacked experience in their back four without King's presence and the manager will be relieved to have him back as they are yet to win since his injury.

Spurs have a busy January calendar and could play another six games this month. As a result, they will need all the members of their squad fit and available if they are to be successful in this period.

Jenas said he is looking forward to helping his team-mates on the field.

"It's been great to see the lads pick up points in the league and continue to do well in the cups and I'm eager to get back involved again," he said.

The former Newcastle man has started full training but is unlikely to be sharp enough to meet his former side in the Premiership on Sunday.

Both players said they felt the team had a lot to play for over the second part of the season as they continue to chase trophies in three cup competitions.
