Flying winger Aaron Lennon has signed a new bumper deal which will keep him at Tottenham until 2012.

The England star agreed a five-and-a-half year deal at White Hart Lane to quash rumours of a move to Chelsea.

Lennon, 19, has been a revelation for the north London club since signing from fallen giants Leeds United in 2005.

After only seven international caps since breaking into the England squad last year, he is regarded as one of the country's brightest prospects.

Spurs boss Martin Jol said the best was still to come from the midfielder.

“Aaron has taken his chances and made himself into a regular first-team player in a short space of time and we often forget how young he still is," Jol said.

"As a player he is growing and developing, he is a great talent now and clearly there is so much more still to come. He is a prime example of the exciting young talent we are attracting to the club."

Lennon said he was looking forward to a successful season with Spurs.

"I'm feeling really settled here at the club and I'm thoroughly enjoying my football. There is a terrific spirit in the squad and we have everything to play for this season," the young midfielder commented.

Lennon has been restricted to 12 league appearences this season due to a knee injury.

He came on as a second-half substitute in Spurs' 0-0 draw with Cardiff yesterday in the FA Cup third round tie.
