New signing David Bentley says his heart is with new club Spurs
New signing David Bentley has said he never entertained the thought of joining any other club once he knew
Tottenham Hotspur were interested in him.
Speaking at his first press conference since joining Spurs from
Blackburn Rovers, Bentley said he has always held the north London outfit in high regard and that he had idolised certain former players at the club as a youngster.
"It means the world to join Tottenham," the England international midfielder explained.
"Making the move here was an easy decision, to be honest.
"I've been trying my hardest to come here and be part of this. All my friends are season-ticket holders and all I want to do is just get out there on the pitch."
He continued: "Gazza was my favourite player, all my mates are Tottenham fans and there's a piece of my heart at this club.
"I didn't think they would be interested in me but when a move became available there was nowhere else I wanted to go."
Bentley came through the youth system at Spurs' north London rivals
Arsenal - spending nine years on the books of the Gunners before moving to Blackburn permanently in 2006.
But he played down his links to the Lilywhites' bitter rivals, saying: "That's in the past, I grew up through the Arsenal youth team but it's not a problem for me.
"My heart is at Tottenham and all my passion will be channelled into doing well for them."
