Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson says he is in no rush to appoint a new assistant coach following the departure of Carlos Queiroz to the Portuguese national side.
Ferguson says he will rely on his remaining coaches to help fill the void left by Queiroz at first-team level while the club assess the best way to replace the Portuguese coach.
Coaches Mike Phelan, Brian McClair and Rene Meulensteen are likely to be promoted in the interim with Phelan taking over the bulk of the first-team duties.
Phelan took on a similar role in 2001 when former United assistant Steve McClaren left the club to manage
Middlesbrough.
Following United's 2-0 friendly win over Aberdeen yesterday Ferguson was asked whether he would be looking to replace Queiroz quickly with the new season approaching fast.
"Not really," Ferguson replied. "We'll just take our time as we normally do. We'll wait and see how things unfold."
The Scot said he was sorry to have lost the services of Queiroz as he felt the Portuguese coach had brought a lot of interesting ideas and had helped the side improve.
Ferguson said: "It's disappointing but he did a great job for us and that's why he'll be remembered. He's gone with our best wishes.
"He did a terrific job for us and a lot of the innovations we've had over the last few years are down to Carlos."
Following Queiroz's last departure in 2003 United went all season without appointing a successor only for Queiroz to come back to the club after one season at Real Madrid.
