Hicks calls for Parry to resign as Liverpool chief executive

Thursday, 10 Apr 2008 21:30
Rick Parry has been a key figure at Liverpool for many years
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has written a letter to the club's board asking chief executive Rick Parry to resign.

Hicks is thought to be unhappy with the Liverpool's commercial direction under Parry's leadership and he claimed that manager Rafael Benitez has blamed Parry for a failure to sign a number of big-name players.

Parry is at a Premier League meeting in London and has yet to see the letter. But in a statement he said: "It is my intention to remain focused on the job of serving Liverpool Football Club to the best of my abilities at this very important time of our season."

This is the latest twist in an on-going power battle at Anfield which has seen co-owners Hicks and George Gillett fallout. Hicks wants to take full control of the club, but although Gillett is willing to sell his stake, he is thought to be unwilling to sell to his co-owner.

Hicks is thought to have been angered by comments made by Parry recently asking the co-owners to sort out their differences. The American businessman couldn't have been pleased either to see Parry and Gillett sitting together during the Champions League game against Arsenal on Tuesday.

Prospective buyers Dubai International Capital (DIC) yesterday said they will not launch a bid to buy the club until the boardroom problems were sorted out. The group said they were still interested in buying the club but could not progress when "you have two partners who do not see eye to eye".End of story
