Real Madrid stalwart Iker Casillas has told the club hierarchy that the possible arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo will not make the team great again.
The Spanish giants have had a poor season in which they have failed at home and in Europe. Real were crushed by Liverpool in the Champions League and will lose their La Liga crown to bitter rivals Barcelona.
With the presidential elections coming up and the expected re-election of Florentino Perez, the man who introduced the Galactico era, Real have been linked with world record breaking moves for both Ronaldo and AC Milan playmaker Kaka.
"Ronaldo and Kaka are great players but we don't have to keep returning to these names," said Casillas.
"What we need is a team that compete with Barcelona and one player doesn't change a team. I believe a team always forms together and there cannot be a player that changes everything.
"If we pay 100 million (£89 million) for Ronaldo it's because he's worth it. But with the economic crisis it is peculiar that in football we talk of these astronomical figures."
Ronaldo claimed earlier this month that his "Real dream is dead", but despite his comments, even today the Spanish press claimed that Real had finally agreed a transfer fee for the winger with United and speculation will continue to mount as the season nears to an end.
