New AC Milan superstar David Beckham has admitted he doesn't expect to be in the starting line-up straight away at the Italian giants.
Beckham was officially unveiled as a Milan player today and will spend two months with the club before heading back to the US for the start of the new Major League Soccer (MLS) season with LA Galaxy.
The 33-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder could be needed straight away at his new club as they have a host of injuries in the midfield department. The likes of Gennaro Gattuso, Kaka and Andrea Pirlo are all currently out injured.
"There's some great players out there and I don't expect to walk in on the first day and be starting in the team, it doesn't happen like that," said Beckham.
"I'm going to work hard in training, I'm going to get my fitness - because I need to - and then once I'm fit, hopefully I can get some time in the team, and hopefully help. I know there's quite a few injuries at the moment."
Beckham revealed that his desire to play at the highest-level of the game and retain his place in the England squad were key reasons behind joining Milan.
"I've always said I would miss playing at the highest level," said Beckham. "I'm not saying that in America they won't get to the highest level - it will take time and it will happen. But with five months off during the season I personally can't do that.
"I needed to be able to be playing top-flight football to keep myself fit, to keep myself in contention for other things that are going on."
Milan confirmed that Beckham would not be staying longer than the two-month loan deal but said they would consider bringing him back for a similar spell next season.
