Andrew Flintoff made his return from injury for a Lancashire second XI who faced Durham at Alderley Edge on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old is returning from a side strain that he picked up against Durham last month, an injury in a series of knocks that has kept the England all-rounder off the Test scene since 2006.
But he could be set for a return to the England set-up when the team takes on South Africa in the first Test on July 10th despite missing out on the one-day series against New Zealand.
He began in the field and stayed mainly at second slip as Lancashire laboured to knock over their opponent's tail end.
Flintoff will be hoping to make a difference tomorrow (Wednesday) after three ducks in a row since returning from the ankle injury that has kept him on the sidelines for so long.
He could also feature in other second team games before getting a chance to play in a first-class match against Sussex at the end of the month.
This would be his only opportunity to stake his claim for a place in the team to play South Africa.
At the close of play on the first day, the Lancashire side trail Durham by 281 runs with ten wickets intact.
