Everton manager David Moyes believes that he is the right man to get the best out of Brazilian striker Jo.
Moyes signed the 21-year-old on loan from Manchester City after he failed to settle at Eastlands following his £19 million transfer last summer from CSKA Moscow, for whom he scored 44 goals in 77 appearances.
Everton have suffered injuries to strikers Louis Saha, Yakubu and Victor Anichebe and Moyes feels that Jo could be just the man to light up Goodison Park.
"We looked at him last year but we werent sure it was the right thing for us to pursue in the end.
"The truth is that it hasnt worked for him at Manchester City and there could be a couple of reasons for that, such as it takes time for some foreign boys to settle in.
"He might also have found the Premier League a bit of a struggle but were happy to give him a chance and it would be great if he could show the form he did in Russia.
"The players we have got here will make it easy for him to settle and he will have the support of everyone to ensure he gets back to his best."
"We understand the reasons we have been able to get him and I suppose some people will say we are taking a gamble, but he is a £20m-rated player.
Jo is cup-tied after playing for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest in the Third Round.
Moyes also failed in a deadline day attempt to sign FC Shalke striker Kevin Kuranyi on loan.
