New Zealand star Dan Carter rates James Hook as one of the best fly-halfs in the world and can't wait to come up against the Welshman.

Carter, who is regarded as one of the greatest fly-halfs of all-time, could face Hook when his French side Perpignan face Hook's Ospreys side in the Heineken Cup on Saturday.

"James Hook is a great player and he has shown on occasions just what he's really capable of - he's got real talent and is capable of turning games," said Carter.

"He is very skilful and a huge attacking player and I am looking forward to lining up against him again. We've played against each other a couple of times and now he has got a bit of international experience behind him which I'm sure he'll draw on for this game.

"You always want to play against the guys who are best in their position and he's definitely up there as one of the best 10s."

Carter, however, faces a race against time to be fit to play against the Ospreys. The 26-year-old was forced to go off after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in Perpignan's 40–14 win over Bourgoin on Saturday.

The All Blacks great will take a few days off from training but is expected to be given the all clear to face the Ospreys.
