Inter Milan complete £13 million signing of Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari
Inter Milan have completed the £13 million signing of
Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari.
The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract at the San Siro, just 12 months after joining Pompey from Serie A outfit Udinese.
During his solitary season at Fratton Park the Ghanaian played 33 times, scoring five goals, the most memorable of which being a penalty at Old Trafford that knocked
Manchester United out of the FA Cup, a competition Pompey went on to win.
Harry Redknapp, who brought Muntari to the south coast for £7 million last season, praised the midfielder but admitted Inter's offer was too good to turn down.
"I'm very disappointed to let him go," the manager said. "He's a terrific player and was a great signing for us. He's a really nice lad as well.
"He can't be a bad player Inter Milan don't buy bad players. He helped us achieve what we did last year.
"But Inter Milan have come in and made a big offer which allows us to strengthen the team in a couple of other positions.
"We need that. I still feel we're a few players short if we want to do as well as we did last season."
Inter's signing of Muntari effectively ends Jose Mourinho's pursuit of Frank Lampard, who is now set to stay at
Chelsea.
