Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was left purring over his side's "gutsy performance" against Wigan that puts them just one point away from the Premier League title.
The Red Devils scored a late winner through midfielder Michael Carrick for a 2-1 victory at the JJB Stadium last night, meaning a draw at home to Arsenal on Saturday will be enough to guarantee them a third consecutive domestic crown.
And Ferguson said his side owed the result to their never-say-die attitude, even after going a goal behind in the first half courtesy of Hugo Rodallega's strike.
"[The players] were fantastic in the second half in terms of their determination," the United boss said.
"They never gave in and just kept going - we got a little break and in the second half I thought we were the better team."
Ferguson said his team's "patience and discipline" was the difference, especially because the manager felt referee Rob Styles gave them little or no help whatsoever.
"The referee was annoying with some of his decisions, but you can't beat the referee, you have to keep him on your side," he continued.
"We had to keep patient. I thought we should have had a penalty kick, but we weren't getting anything and we have done it without any help.
"We have done it with a fantastic second goal from Michael Carrick and a real gutsy performance."
