The Australian government have attempted to boost their London 2012 medal bid by releasing a viral video featuring a "loud-mouth Brit" apparently taunting the Australian public.

The short film clip, which lasts just over a minute, has been posted on the Australia Sports Commission website to encourage any aspiring amateur athletes under 25 to register to compete in London in four years' time.

Featuring a tag line that reads, "let's rip the Brits to bits in London 2012", the clip shows a young man in a hooded top speaking to the camera in a Cockney accent.

With phrases such as "you ain't got what it takes, son", and "the only gold you'll pick up will be from a chocolate wrapper" - the video is aimed at stirring national pride in Australia.

Australians were hurt by taunts from British sports fans after Team GB outshone their antipodean counterparts - winning 19 gold medals in a total haul of 47 medals, compared to Australia's 14 golds and 46 total medals.

The rivalry between the nations extended to the upper echelons of organised sport - leading the Australian sports minister Kate Ellis to have to wear a Team GB shirt after losing a bet with her British counterpart, Gerry Sutcliffe.

The tongue-in-cheek video, which ends with the man saying "you might as well stay at home", is certain to cause a stir in both the UK and Australia.
