Coloccini will be Kevin Keegan's third signing of the summer
Newcastle United are set to complete the signing of Argentinean defender Fabricio Coloccini within the next 48 hours.
Coloccini's club, Deportivo La Coruna, rejected an initial offer of 12 million (£9.5 million) from the Magpies last week, but it seems that the two clubs have now reached an agreement.
"There is an agreement between Deportivo and Newcastle," Coloccini's agent told Spanish radio.
Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan had earlier confirmed that he hoped negotiations would be completed over the weekend.
"There's one deal which is ongoing at the moment," Keegan told NUFC TV.
"Hopefully we'll have something to tell you over the weekend."
The 26-year-old could become the most expensive defender in Newcastle's history, eclipsing the £9 million Bobby Robson paid to Leeds United for Jonathan Woodgate in January 2003.
Coloccini has 27 caps for Argentina, and would become Keegan's third signing of the summer, following the acquisitions of Real Mallorca's Jonas Gutierrez, and Danny Guthrie from
Liverpool.
