Depp's Wonka proves a sugary hit

Depp: not planning to kick the Bucket just yet
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has kept its sticky mitts on the number one spot in the UK box office for a second week, as kids movies continue to thrive during the school holidays

While it is unfair to call the Johnny Depp starred remake of 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory a kids movie, as it is aimed as much at grown-ups, the release has proven to be popular with the young'uns during its opening weeks.

It has been so successful, that its two week £19,422,510 haul is nearly double what its nearest rival, a genuine children's film, Madagascar, has made in four.

The Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan wise-cracking comedy Wedding Crashers has continued to perform well, climbing back up and knocking comic-caper Fantastic Four from the third spot.

Bringing up the rear of the top five is Lindsay Lohan in new entry Herbie: Fully Loaded, a film to please younger kids as well as petrol heads who are willing to believe in a magical, make-believe VW.
