Didier Zokora, Tottenham Hotspur's recent buy from St Etienne, has revealed that he chose his new team in preference to their north London rivals Arsenal.
In comments likely to make the Ivory Coast midfielder an immediate favourite at White Hart Lane, he claimed that Martin Jol made him feel more wanted at Spurs.
"I listened to an offer from Arsenal, but decided Spurs was where I wanted to be at. One of the things was that they showed they really wanted me," he said.
The £8.2 million man had the chance to link up with fellow countrymen Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue at the new Emirates stadium, but says that the chance to become part of the Dutch manager's resurgent Tottenham side was an equally good offer.
"Spurs are an ambitious club with lots of good young players and for me they are a club for the future," he added.
With Michael Carrick's sale swelling the coffers, but leaving a hole in midfield, it is expected Zokora and young Finn Teemu Tainio will now fight it out to succeed the Geordie as Jol continues his search for a left-sided player.
