Sound and Fury -signifying nothing?
Rebel Youth, out October 13th.
In a nutshell...
Hard rock rhythm and bruises.
What's it all about?
This is the debut album from Canadian noise makers Sound and Fury. With 11 tracks of dirty duelling guitars and visceral vocals this is an impressive first opus from the lads from Ontario.
Who's it by?
Sound and Fury are five young guys from Toronto who have, as they themselves acknowledge, spent their teenage years honing their musical misfit lifestyle to the sound of both AC/DC and the Sex Pistols. The punk streak comes courtesy of vocalist Luke Metcalf's time spent living on the streets with gutter-punks in California.
As an example...
"I got the bad touch, that feels so good/Tell all the girls in your neighbourhood/I got the bad touch, that feels so right/I'm gonna' make you burn tonight."
Likelihood of a trip to the Grammys
This isn't going to make any sort of dent on the main stream chart or even the top 100 but in those tight circles where snake tattoos and Doc Martens still get an outing this will sit very snugly indeed. Just don't expect your mum to buy you the t-shirt.
What the others say
"It is all about the riffs and the vibe, with a couple of nice solos tossed in, but it is not particularly memorable. When you count them among their influences, I will always be more apt to grab AC/DC or the Ramones over Sound and Fury." - Blogcriticsmagazine
So is it any good?
This is simple party-punk stuff at its best really. Good-time gang vocals and stomping beats make this a listenable if slightly forgettable album. The after school anarchy feeling makes for much adrenaline pumping but it'll come as nothing new for the punk hardcore: the very market they are perhaps trying to crack.
