Russian side Zenit St Petersburg have one foot in the Uefa Cup semi-finals after a crushing 4-1 win away at Bayer Leverkusen in the first-leg.

Andrey Arshavin opened the scoring for the visitors after 20 minutes when fired in from close range. But Leverkusen hit back almost immediately through Stefan Kiessling.

But it was all St Petersburg from there on in as they dominated the game and scored three more goals.

Pavel Pogrebnyak, Aleksandr Anyukov and Igor Denisov scored in the space of 12 second-half minutes to secure a massive lead heading into the second leg in Russia.

German giants Bayern Munich have it all to do in the second leg after they were held to a surprising 1-1 draw at home by Spanish side Getafe.

Italian striker Luca Toni gave Bayern the lead after 26 minutes, but former West Brom star Cosmin Contra grabbed the equaliser in stoppage time.

In the other quarter-final of the night, Italian side Fiorentina were held to a 1-1 draw to home by PSV Eindhoven in a hard-fought game.

Former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu gave Fiorentina the lead but they were pegged back by a goal from Danny Koevermans.
