Aston Villa defender Luke Young has turned down the chance to join the England squad ahead of this weekend's friendly against Brazil and revealed he has retired from international football.
Young, 30, has finally gone public on his decision to step away from the international limelight, which, according to reports, was made earlier this year in February.
The Villa full-back is said to have turned down the chance of a call-up from Fabio Capello after injury forced first-choice right-back Glen Johnson's return to Liverpool.
It leaves Wes Brown as the only recognised right-sided defender in the squad as they prepare for Saturday's exhibition game against the five-time world champions.
Young, who has seven caps, is said to have been keen to keep his decision under wraps for personal reasons. His younger brother Andre, 17, died while on holiday in Crete in August.
The Villa player has started only once for his club this season - in Saturday's 5-1 win over Bolton - having returned to first-team action as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat at West Ham earlier this month.
