X Factor winner Leona Lewis is sitting pretty in the festive charts after her debut single A Moment Like This went straight to number one just five days after going on sale.

Only eight days after winning the ITV1 talent show, the 21-year-old managed to shove last week's top selling single, Patience by Take That, into second spot.

Leona follows in the footsteps of last year's X Factor champ Shayne Ward in getting a Christmas number one with her first-ever release.

McFly's latest effort, Sorry's Not Good Enough, turned out to not be quite up to it as it came in at three, while Girls Aloud's cover of the old Tiffany hit I Think We're Alone now was one behind at four.

Christmas classic Fairytale of New York by the Pogues and the late Kirsty MacColl meanwhile rose four places to six.

Take That need not feel so glum tomorrow either, as the comeback kings of pop are at number one in the Christmas album's chart, which is unsurprisingly dominated by seasonal compilations.
