At least six people have been killed by a wave of car bombs that ripped through the Iraqi capital Baghdad today.
Four separate explosions were reported around the war-torn city, with police fearing that as many as 50 people have been injured in the blasts.
The first explosion occurred in the city centre, near the ministry of health building on the banks of the Tigris river.
A car bomb exploded at rush-hour on a busy street, killing three people and wounding about 25.
Soon after, two blasts rocked the area near the Mustansiriya University, leaving a further three people dead and 15 more injured.
And another notable day of bloodshed in the Iraqi capital was confirmed moments later, when a fourth explosion injured eight more.
Today's attacks come as the Iraqi government desperately strives to establish law and order as Jawad al-Maliki, the prime minister-designate, begins the task of attempting to reach a cross-party consensus on the way forward.
Mr Al-Maliki has 30 days to assemble a national unity government of Shia, Sunni Arab and Kurdish parties.
Parliament also yesterday elected a president, two vice presidents, a parliament speaker and two deputies.
