Former US vice president Dick Cheney has been released from hospital after suffering a mild heart attack, his office has confirmed.
The 69-year-old was admitted to George Washington University Hospital on Monday suffering from chest pains.
He is said to have undergone a stress test and a heart catheterisation.
A spokesman said on Wednesday: "Former Vice-President Cheney is feeling good this morning and was discharged. He will resume his normal schedule shortly."
Mr Cheney has suffered a series of heart episodes during the last 32 years, including five heart attacks, and has undergone a quadruple bypass.
The former VP has maintained a high profile since leaving office in January 2009, continually attacking Barack Obama and his administration over issues such as the president's plans to close Guantanamo Bay.
It is believed he had been due to met Mr Obama's predecessor George Bush and other former colleagues tomorrow, although it is now unclear whether he will be fit enough to attend.
