An investigation is underway in the US after an audio tape appearing to be that of a child directing planes at one of the country's busiest airports was leaked.
US officials said they would be looking into allegations that a child was heard on tape speaking to pilots about to take-off from New York's JFK airport.
It is believed the little boy, whose name and age is unknown, was with his father, a certified air traffic controller. In one part of the tape the child can be heard to say: "MS 4-0-3, contact departure.
"Adios, amigo."
The pilot responds: "Adios, amigo."
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement: "Pending the outcome of our investigation, the employees involved in this incident are not controlling air traffic.
"This behaviour is not acceptable and does not demonstrate the kind of professionalism expected from all FAA employees."
