US health officials have warned the swine flu outbreak is set to worsen.
Health experts claim they expect the virus to spread to all 50 US states with many more infections set to be announced.
At present there are 896 confirmed cases of swine flu in the United States, with two people dying.
Commenting on the virus, Dr Richard Besser, acting director of the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said: "So far we are not seeing any signs of this petering out. We are on the upswing."
Elsewhere in the world, the official death toll in Mexico - where the virus is thought to have originated - has now reached 44, with hundreds of other confirmed cases.
Health secretary Alan Johnson confirmed on Thursday the number of cases in the UK now stands as 34, with a number of schools still closed as a precautionary measure to help prevent the spread of the virus.
