A British soldier, who was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan on New Year's Day, was set to marry upon his return to the UK.
Sergeant Christopher John Reed was killed while on patrol in Helmand province when his vehicle was involved in a bomb blast.
The 25-year-old soldier, who was with the 6th Battalion The Rifles, got engaged to his fiancee Heather upon leaving for the country.
Sergeant Reed's commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Tom Mereweather described his colleague as a "talented, committed non-commissioned officer".
Lieutenant Colonel Mereweather said: "He was undoubtedly one of my very best section commanders.
"Calm, modest, easy-going but with a sense of purpose and obvious steel, he will be greatly missed."
Before joining the army, Sergeant Reed worked at the Devonport Dockyard where he built luxury yachts. He is the 138th soldier to die in operations since the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.
