A British soldier has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed the death today and said the man's family had been informed.
The MoD said that the soldier had been on foot patrol in Musa Qaleh when he was caught in the blast.
No one else was injured in the explosion and the soldier's death was described as 'tragic'.
No further details have been released by the MoD regarding the soldiers' identity, which a spokesperson declared was "in line with the wishes of the family, who are in our thoughts at this difficult time".
The death brings the total number of UK troops killed in Afghanistan, since the country's invasion in 2001, to 95.
