Iran's parliament speaker has issued a harshly worded warning to western powers over international efforts to force Iran to give up its nuclear energy programme.
Ali Larijani said that the west "will suffer if it continues to use the language of force", adding that pressuring Iran is a "mistake."
Larijani, Iran's former top nuclear negotiator who resigned last year over alleged differences with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, told parliament that "the west should heed the warnings of Mr ElBaradei".
International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei told an Egyptian news network last week that he would resign if threats to attack Iran over its controversial uranium enrichment programme were carried out.
Many western powers, led mainly by Britain, the United States, France, and Germany believe Iran is developing nuclear weapons under the cover of its civilian atomic energy programme.
