Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka claim to have killed 130 government troops in fierce fighting in the country's north.
The claim from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) comes a day after Colombo said it had killed 120 rebels at the cost of 20 of its own soldiers.
A report posted on tamilnet.com said 300 government troops had been wounded in the fighting in the Kilinochchi region, a former Tiger stronghold.
Photos on the Tamil Tiger-affiliated website showed a line of government troops reportedly killed in the recent fighting, including child soldiers.
Up to 65,000 people are thought to have died in the last 25 years in Sri Lanka as the Tamil Tigers violently campaign for an independent homeland in the country's north.
