An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale has hit the Indonesian island of Java.
No structural damage is reported following the tremors, which were reported as being light to moderate by residents across the island.
The earthquake, whose epicentre was located just 65 miles east of Jakarta, struck at 12:05 local time (18:05 BST).
But because of its depth, at 179.7 miles, the damage it caused was only minimal. Tall buildings reportedly shook and residents were briefly panicked, however.
The depth of the earthquake means geologists have also ruled out the likelihood of a tsunami being triggered.
Indonesia is situated on the Pacific Ocean's seismically active 'ring of fire' region.
Over 130,000 people were killed by a December 2004 earthquake, which caused a devastatingly fatal tsunami across the region.
A further 5,749 were killed in June 2006 by an earthquake striking Java which measured 6.3 on the Richter scale, according to the US Geological Survey.
On July 26th an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 on Richter scale struck off eastern Indonesia.
