A British soldier has been killed in an explosion while on patrol in Afghanistan's troubled province of Helmand.
The soldier was serving with the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and died on Friday morning.
Speaking about the incident Task Force Helmand spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson said: "Today is another sad day for Task Force Helmand as it is with deep regret that we report the death of another member of the services on duty in Afghanistan.
"Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased and also to the soldiers of 1st Battalion Welsh Guards."
A representative for Nato's International Security Assistance Force said the soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device.
He conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased, adding: "The absolute commitment of this service member shines like a beacon to guide us as we pursue peace for the people of Afghanistan."
169 soldiers have been killed since operations began in October 2001.
