Two US soldiers have been killed and six others injured in an attack on the country's main base in Afghanistan.
A spokesman for the US military said rockets were fired on the Bagram air field, 40 kilometers north-east of the Afghan capital, Kabul, early on Sunday.
Four others, two military personnel and two civilians, were injured in the firing on the base as well.
Earlier this year, the US decided to send 21,000 additional troops to Afghanistan in order to improve security and step up operations against the Taliban.
In 2007, 20 people were killed when a suicide bomber attacked the base during a visit by then US vice president Dick Cheney to the country.
