Prince Andrew has criticised America's Iraq policy in an interview with the International Herald Tribune.
The prince, fourth in line to the throne, claimed that the US should listen to Britain and "learn from our experiences".
Currently working as a trade envoy, he claimed: "If you are looking at colonialism, if you are looking at operations on an international scale, if you are looking at understanding each other's culture, understanding how to operate in a military campaign we have been through them all.
"The fact is there is quite a lot of experience over here which is valid and should be listened to."
Prince Andrew, 47, said that the current crisis in Iraq could have been avoided if president George Bush had listened to British advice.
He also claimed that the current situation had led to "healthy scepticism" regarding what now came out of Washington.
On his 22 years service in the Royal Navy, the prince claimed: "I was the glamorous one dressed in a uniform who flew his helicopter and I was there to defend, to be an instrument of HM government whenever and wherever they so chose. And I thought it was frightfully glamorous."
During his time in the Navy the prince fought in the Falklands conflict, an experience that he claims changed him "out of all recognition".
