Pakistan's envoy to Afghanistan has gone missing and is feared to have been abducted, Afghan security sources claim.
Sardar Tariq Azizuddin has not been heard from since he headed to the Afghanistan capital, Kabul.
The ambassador is believed to have disappeared somewhere along the Kabul-Turkham highway, with security sources claiming it was near the village of Ali Masjid on Pakistan's North West Frontier Province.
"He's been missing since 11 a.m. (06:00 GMT)," a security official in the Khyber region said.
The envoy had been due to change cars at the border but it is not believed to have reached the frontier.
Reports suggest that the kidnapping may be in response to the capture of Mansoor Dadullah earlier today.
Dadullah, a well-known Taliban operative in south-western Pakistan, was shot and wounded by Pakistani security forces.
He is the brother of the Taliban leader Mullah Dadullah who was killed last May.
