A number of top commanders in Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards have been killed in a suicide blast in the south-east of the country.
State media reports at least 30 people died in the attack in the Sistan-Baluchistan region on Sunday morning.
It is believed the commanders had been meeting with tribal leaders at the time of the attack.
The al Jazeera news ageny reports General Nourali Shoushtari, the head of the Revolutionary Guards' armed forces, and General Mohammadzadeh, the Guard's commander in Sistan-Baluchestan, were both killed in the suicide blast.
The attack is believed to be the deadliest in Iran in recent years and left another 40 people wounded.
Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared on Sunday those responsible for would be punished.
"The criminals will soon get the response for their anti-human crimes," Iranian media quote him as saying.
The Sistan-Baluchestan region borders both Pakistan and Afghanistan and has witnessed violence in the past.
