Kenya has approved a truth, justice and reconciliation commission to help investigate human rights violations in the country.
The Kenyan parliament approved the measure in response to the widespread violence witnessed during the December 2007 elections.
Reports suggest as many as 1,500 people were killed in the clashes and over 300,000 more were forced to flee their homes.
Kenya's president Mwai Kibaki and Orange Democratic Movement leader and prime minister Raila Odinga signed a power-sharing deal in February forming a coalition government and bringing an end to the violence.
The commission will apparently investigate crimes committed since the country's independence in 1963 up to February of this year.
Those found guilty of genocide and other human rights violations will not be granted immunity in a move to prevent future violence.
