Gunfire has been heard in the West Bank city of Hebron after Israeli forces stormed a building to remove Jewish settlers.
Reports claim that fires have been seen burning across the city after settlers set a number of Palestinian homes on fire.
On Thursday evening the Israeli army declared the Hebron region a "closed military zone", barring entry to non-residents.
The al-Jazeera news agency reports that up to 20 were people were injured when Israeli police removed settlers from the building, which they had occupied since March 2007.
After the forced eviction, settlers reportedly fired upon the police and the gathered media.
It is thought that as many as 200 people were inside the house at the time of the siege, which supporters flocking to the area over the last few days.
On November 16th, the Israeli high court ordered the evacuation of the house until it was established who owned the house and a meeting between Israeli defence minister Ehud Barak and settler leaders on Thursday failing to resolve the situation.
