An Israeli air strike killed two Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to news agencies.
Witnesses said the attack came after militants had been launching mortar bombs into Israel from the area earlier.
However, relatives told Reuters the two killed were civilians, with one a 15-year-old boy.
There were four people injured, according to witnesses.
Hamas, the group that controls the region, said on of its members was wounded in the incident.
The Israeli military confirmed to AFP it carried out an air strike in the Rafah area. Palestinian militants fired a total of eight mortar rounds and two rockets at southern Israel, causing no casualties, a spokesman told the agency.
