Alaskan politicians will today reveal whether Sarah Palin abused her power as the state's governor to pursue a family feud.
The verdict of a legislative inquiry into what has been dubbed 'Troopergate' by local media is due to be announced today.
Mrs Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, is accused of firing safety chief Walt Monegan after he refused to sack state trooper Mike Wooten.
Mr Wooten had been involved in a heated custody battle with Mrs Palin's younger sister at the time.
The inquiry was launched a month before Mrs Palin was chosen as John McCain's running-mate for the White House in August, but Republican attempts to have the probe thrown out have failed.
Although the worst Mrs Palin can expect is an official reprimand, the result comes just weeks before American voters go to the polls to choose a new president.
It is expected, however, that the governor's husband Todd will bear the brunt of legislators' judgment.
Sworn affidavits have already revealed that Mr Palin told Mr Monegan to fire his brother-in-law but without Mrs Palin's knowledge.
He claimed that Mr Wooten had made violent threats towards the Palins.
