At least 51 civilians have been killed in Iraq after three linked bombs were detonated in Baghdad.
Police say more than 80 people were wounded in the attacks, which occurred earlier today in a busy shopping district of the Iraqi capital.
The three explosive devices were all no more than 100m apart and are thought to have been designed to maximise civilian casualties in the latest example of sectarian violence in the troubled Middle Eastern country.
Only two days ago US president George Bush met with Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki to discuss ongoing bloodshed.
Today's attack coincides with a joint raid by US and Iraqi troops upon suspected insurgents in Baquba, with about 30 militants taken into custody.
