An eight-year-old British girl has been taken into care by Portuguese authorities after her mother allegedly abandoned her to go drinking near to where Madeleine McCann went missing last year.
Neighbours contacted Portuguese police reporting that the child had already been abandoned numerous times during the holiday in Portimao, which is located 25 miles away from Praia da Luz.
The girl was taken into care when her mother did not return to their holiday apartment, after reportedly going out drinking, and she is now staying in Loule.
In May last year, Madeleine McCann disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
Earlier this year, three British children were taken into protective custody after their parents allegedly became drunk while on holiday in the Algarve.
Eamon and Antoinette McGuckin denied the claims and returned to Northern Ireland before their court appearance.
