Pakistan opposition politician Imran Khan has gone on hunger strike in jail in protest at General Pervez Musharraf's emergency rule.
The former cricketer says he will refuse food and water until the president-elect restores the country's constitution and reinstates members of the judiciary who were sacked at the beginning of the month.
"Imran was looking tired. He is being kept in solitary confinement and said he has been denied facilities such as newspapers and television," the 54-year-old's regional Tehreek-e-Insaf party spokesman Sarfraz Cheema told the AFP news agency.
"He has gone on hunger strike until his death."
Mr Khan was arrested in Lahore last week after participating in a student demonstration.
Police claim he was inciting the crowds to riot and he has been subsequently held at Dera Ghazi Khan prison on anti-terror charges.
All opposition politicians were nominally placed under arrest when Gen Musharraf declared emergency rule on November 3rd.
Mr Khan, who led Pakistan to glory in the cricket World Cup 15 years ago, promptly went on the run, keeping his movements secret and communicating with supporters via the internet.
Since leaving the world of cricket Mr Khan has been an active figures in Pakistan's opposition political scene, although he is the sole parliamentary representative of his party, which translates as Movement for Justice.
